Member Reflections on the Value of MCAP
Despite their shared characteristics and experiences, Mediterranean regions face challenges in addressing their unique interests, as the urgency of their impacts is not effectively communicated through a unified voice:
The Implementation Challenge
Inhibiting alignment, coordination, and knowledge exchange around a shared climate adaptation and resilience agenda
Reducing access to funding and technical assistance needed to scale implementation of adaptation solutions on drought, wildfire, and extreme heat
Fragmenting efforts to build public awareness and support around the common needs and challenges across mediterranean regions
With leadership from the Government of Catalonia, Spain, and the State of California, United States of America leaders across impacted Mediterranean regions have come together to drive collective action around drought, wildfire, and extreme heat. Our three-year action agenda is organized around three goals:
What We Do
Advance learning and effective responses through member convenings and knowledge sharing
2026 Outcomes: Regions share information and best practices (technical, policy, implementation exchanges, site visits, and research and analysis) to build climate resilience and adapt to climate impacts.
Accelerate action and policy outcomes supporting mitigation, adaptation, and resilience
2026 Outcomes: Collective work to implement on-the-ground solutions and aligned efforts that build technical and long-term capacity in regions, and climate resilience within and across all MCAP communities, ecosystems, and economies.
Elevate awareness through innovative communications, amplified through a common voice
2026 Outcomes: Communicate climate risks in regions to vulnerable populations, funders, practitioners, and decision-makers – including other mediterranean regions and international audiences – to mobilize diverse funding and technical assistance for adaptation solutions.
